KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Theresa Powell, 90, of Kingsley, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., died Friday, April 15, 2005, at her residence in Kingsley.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. today at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the family present until 8:30 p.m. Burial will be April 22 in Maple Lawn Cemetery at Flora, Ind., under the direction of the Baker Funeral Home. The family is being assisted with local funeral arrangements by Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Theresa Agnes Speece was born May 24, 1914, to Lylvan and Annie (Ketterer) Speece at Joanna, Pa.

She married Vernon S. Powell in Pennsylvania on Jan. 16, 1932. They had five children, Dr. Robert Vernon "Bob" Powell of Kingsley, Theresa Ann Price (deceased) of Springfield, Ohio, Dr. John Edwin "Jack" Powell of Vermillion, S.D., Duane Randolph Powell of Fox Lake, Ill., and Debra Kay Paul of Cutler, Ind.

Theresa was employed by Berkshire Knitting Mills in Reading, Pa., prior to entering the ministry of The Church of the Brethren with Vernon. They attended seminary classes at Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago, Ill. They served pastorates in Kingsley, Minneapolis, Minn., Piqua, Ohio, Kent, Ohio, Flora, Ind. and Bachelor Run, Ind. They retired from the active ministry in 1982.

Survivors include three sons, a daughter, four brothers, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-grand-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons of Theresa.

Memorials may be directed to the Powell Family Scholarship at either McPherson College in McPherson, Kan., or the School of Business at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
