HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Amelia Eva (Harding) Rahn, 90, of Hawarden died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Stuart Schreur officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Amelia Eva Harding Rahn was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Liberty Township, near Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Amasa Elmer and May Belle (Ramesbotham) Harding. She attended school at Central High School in Sioux City and graduated from Westfield High School.
She married Harry Marvin Bernhardt on June 5, 1934, in Le Mars, Iowa. They lived near Westfield until moving to Hawarden in 1952, where she began working for Mapes Nursing Home. She moved to Winona, Minn. in 1964, where she was employed at St. Anne's Hospice. She retired in June 1984 and returned to Hawarden in 1996.
She loved to read, especially to learn. She enjoyed studying the dictionary to further her knowledge.
She is survived by seven children and spouses, Harry Lee and Marlene Bernhardt of Marion, Kan., Deanna P. and Eugene Bosche of Jamestown, N.D., Frances A. and Marlin Gebauer of Ireton, Iowa, Alyce M. and James Wilkison of Cambridge, Wis., Betty L. and Lloyd "Sonny" Strong of Hawarden, Edward M. Bernhardt of Pflugerville, Texas, and Doris E. Bernhardt of Tucson, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
