Punt, Harold 1921-2005

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Harold Punt, 84, of rural Sioux Center died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church, Sioux Center with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Interment will be prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A prayer service will be Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Being born in a farmhouse near Maurice, Iowa on Feb. 8, 1921, Harold was a farmer at heart. He was the third of six children born to Neal and Pauline (Intveld) Punt.

Harold attended country school through the eighth grade. Harold met Louise Vande Berg at Christian Endeavor on Sunday evenings at First Reformed Church, where he remained a member his entire life. They were wed on March 1, 1940.

In addition to his devotion to farming, he enjoyed raising Standardbred Harness Racing horses and was involved in Trotting Associations. Family, friends and grandchildren were very special to him, and they fondly remember him for his generosity and humor, which remained with him to the very end.

Harold is survived by his wife, Louise of 65 years; daughter, Ruth Corbin of Sioux Center; son-in-law, John (Julie) Calsbeek of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Clark (Jena) of Minneota, Minn.; Gina of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Amanda Corbin of Eagan, Minn., Stacie (John) Tigges of Lincoln, Neb., Dean (Tina) Calsbeek of Orange City, Iowa and Lizbeth (Jon) Moss of Alton, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Leona Kots of Sioux Center and Betty Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn, Iowa; brother, Dennis (Arlene) Punt of Orange City; sister-in-law, Mavis Punt of Lakeville, Minn., and numerous special nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

In his life, Harold said farewell to his parents, daughter, Carol Calsbeek, son-in-law, Fred Corbin, brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerrit and Hendrene Punt and Marty and Jeanne Punt, and brothers-in-law, John Van Veldhuizen and Virgil Kots.
