MAURICE, Iowa -- Lois M. Plendl, 84, of Maurice died suddenly Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Orange City Hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Revs. Mike Janes and David Higdon officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice. Visitation with the family present will be after 3 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Lois Maxine Lang was born Dec. 1, 1919, on the family farm in Sherman Township, rural Sioux County, Iowa, to George and Clara (Werley) Lang. Lois was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Reading Township. She began her education at Sherman No. 4 country school and later graduated from Maurice High School in 1938.
Lois was united in marriage to Edmund Plendl on Aug. 30, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. Following their marriage, Lois and Edmund settled on the farm where Lois was born. Along with assisting her husband on the farm, Lois enjoyed tending to her garden and raising chickens. Lois and Ed were blessed with four children, Mark, Lee, George and Ruth.
Lois and Edmund are members of Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars, where Lois was a member of the Martha and Dorcas Circle. She had also served for a number of years on the Calvary Trustee Board. Lois enjoyed gardening, playing the piano for family and friends, playing cards and, in her younger years, was a 4-H leader. She cherished the time spent as "grandma."
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Edmund, of Maurice; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Ellen of Orange City, Iowa, Lee and Sharon of Maurice and their two children, Chris and his wife, Michelle Plendl and Corey Plendl, and George and Judy of Orange City and their two children, Seth and Lucas Plendl; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Jack Bennett, of Sioux Falls, S.D. and their children, Rebecca and Jesse Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Eric and Katelyn Plendl; and many friends throughout Northwest Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara (Werley) Lang.
Pallbearers will be Mark Plendl, Lee Plendl, George Plendl, Jack Bennett, Chris Plendl and Corey Plendl. Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Plendl, Lucas Plendl, Rebecca Bennett and Jesse Bennett.
