JACKSON, Neb. -- Irene H. Peterson, 85, of Jackson, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Dale Jirousek officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa.

Mrs. Peterson was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ann (Specht) Schwiesow. She married Leonard Peterson on Sept. 8, 1937, in Canton, S.D. He died Nov. 25, 1979, in Sioux City. She lived in Sioux City before moving to Jackson with her daughter.

Survivors include her daughter, LaVonne and her husband, Elgin Gruis of Jackson; and a granddaughter and her husband, Tammy and Chris Herbert.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Helmet, Carl, Heiney, Elmer and Bill Schwiesow; and a sister, Mildred Banghart.
