Clifford L. Peterson, 87, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Peterson was born May 13, 1916, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of Victor and Norma (Mills) Peterson. He was raised in the Hawarden, Iowa, and Chatsworth area. He moved to Sioux City in the 1940s.

He married Ruth Jorgensen in 1941, in South Sioux City. He later married Verda M. Hanner on April 2, 1955, in Le Mars, Iowa. Verda passed away April 20, 1998, in Sioux City.

He was employed with Sioux City Battery Co., then at Iowa Public Service with the gas crew. He was a painter and a finisher for various local contractors for many years.

He was a member of the Painter's Union and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by two daughters from his marriage to Ruth, Kathleen and her husband, Bob Daigle of Upland, Calif., and Judy and her husband, Gary Gammel of Victorville, Calif.; two sons from his marriage to Verda, Dean Peterson, and Eldon Peterson and his wife, Paula, all of Sioux City; a brother, Don Peterson of Nevada; two sisters, Helen Dunacheck and Dorothy Hopp, both of California; six grandchildren, Katelyn, Mitchell, Cory, Kelly, Salina and David; and six great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter from his first marriage, Shirley Peterson; four sisters, Elvira, Florence, Hazel and Blanche; and three brothers, Harold, Clarence "Leonard" and Elmer.

Pallbearers will be Elgin Gruie, Gary Peterson, Lyle Hanner, Dennis Moller, Richard Hanner and Ron Riedesel.
