LE MARS, Iowa -- Lois M. Peters, 66, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Services will be 10 a.m Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m., the family present after 6 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Lois Mae Wanderscheid was born Jan. 13, 1937, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Henrich) Wanderscheid. She was raised in Le Mars and was a member of the first graduating class of Gehlen High School.

She was united in marriage to Orville "Jerry" Peters on Aug. 14, 1956, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Le Mars. She had worked for Vander Meer Bakery and later, the Ben Franklin Store in Le Mars. She later continued her education at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, graduating as a medical transcriptionist. She worked for the Family Practice in Sioux City for many years. The last few years, she worked for Vis Vita Feeds in Sioux City until her retirement in the late 1990s. Jerry passed away Feb. 11, 1992.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Lois enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. All through her life, she enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and accordion. Lois and Jerry enjoyed dancing, particularly ballroom and square dancing. She also enjoyed traveling and bingo.

Survivors include four sons, Doug Peters and his wife, Denice, of Le Mars, Randy Peters and his special friend, Jeanette Barber, of Sioux City, Robert Peters and his special friend, Becky Remmick, of Le Mars and Ronald Peters of Belle Plaine, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Kimberly and Keith Hansen of Sioux City and Laurie Peters-Woltman and Rick Woltman of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren, Amanda and her husband, John Lange, Michael Peters, Kayla Hansen, Kari Hansen, Jason Peters, Violet Peters, Robbie Peters, Riley Peters, Emily Peters, Stevie Sudtelgte and his fiancee, Erin Van Dam, and Beau Sudtelgte; two stepgrandchildren, Angie Karli and Rebecca Woltman; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Lange and Tristan Hanson; two great-stepgrandchildren, Taylor and Dreysen Lindgren; two sisters, Jean and her husband, Richard Cherkas, of Sioux City, and Dorothy Homan of Slayton, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Arens of Grass Valley, Calif., and Kendall Peters and his wife, Sharon, of

Chantilly, Va.; two half brothers and their wives, Steve and Debbie Wanderscheid of Sheldon, Iowa, and Paul and Stacey Wanderscheid of Des Moines; and a special friend, Jim Purcell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Vicky Sue in infancy; a sister, Betty Arens; and a brother-in-law, Ev Homan.

Pallbearers will be Jason Peters, Stevie Sudtelgte, Michael Peters, Beau Sudtelgte, Gary Homan and John Lange. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Lange, Kayla Hansen, Kari Hansen, Violet Peters, Robbie Peters, Riley Peters and Emily Peters.
