LE MARS, Iowa -- Rose D. Oltmanns, 98, of Le Mars died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Rosina Dorothea Popken was born Sept. 28, 1905, on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, to Herman Conrad and Christine "Tena" Margaretha (Eden) Popken. Rose was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was raised in the Struble and Craig, Iowa, areas and attended school in Struble.
Rose was united in marriage to Fred Oltmanns on Jan. 5, 1927, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. Rose and Fred farmed in the Craig and Struble areas until 1969. They continued to live on the farm until they retired in 1973 and moved to Le Mars. Fred passed away on May 21, 1996. Rose had made her home at Plymouth Manor Care Center since May 2003.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rose enjoyed playing pinochle with friends and family.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Willard Utech of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two grandchildren, Linda and Alan Drey of Sioux City, and Wayne Utech of Fort Worth, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Tyler Drey; a sister-in-law, Florence Oltmanns of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred in 1996; two sisters, Sophia Delperdang and Gratie Mueller; a brother, Herman John Popken; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Drey.
