STRUBLE, Iowa -- Maxine Ohm, 87, Struble native and lifelong resident, died early Palm Sunday, April 13, 2003, at her home in Struble following a brief illness.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., a rosary by the Altar Rosary Society at 3:30 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will resume 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The former Maxine M. Garding was born June 20, 1915, in Struble, the daughter of John and Clara (Brandt) Garding. She grew up and attended elementary school in Struble and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. She attended Western Union College (Westmar) in Le Mars before attending beauty college in Omaha, Neb.
Maxine married Howard Ohm on Jan 6, 1940, at Wahoo, Neb. Following their marriage, the couple lived at Struble, where Maxine owned and operated Maxine's Beauty Shop for more than 50 years. She also had been the Postmaster at Struble for 31 years. Her husband, Howard died on June 29, 1982.
Maxine was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Her children and grandchildren were an extremely important part of her life. She especially enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.
Survivors include seven children, Gary Ohm and his wife, Mary of Orange City, Iowa, Gene Ohm and his wife, Betty "Poops" of Sioux City, Cathy Ohm of Yankton, S.D., Nancy Ohm of Sioux Falls, S.D., Justin Ohm of Scottsdale, Ariz., Steve Ohm and his wife, Jody of Le Mars, and Jim Ohm and his wife, Chris of Las Vegas, Nev.; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mike and Chuck Ohm; a brother, Lloyd Garding; and a sister, Regina "Wee Wee" Garding.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren.
