ALCESTER, S.D. -- Myrtle Olive Olund, 94, of Alcester died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital in Canton, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mrs. Myrtle O. Olund was born Feb. 9, 1909, the daughter of Oscar and Mollie (Appley) Oake. She was born and raised on the family farm, in the house her grandfather built in 1898.

She married Eric Olund on Jan. 3, 1942, in Akron. The couple farmed the family farm in Union County, rural Elk Point, S.D., all their married life. They retired to Morningside Village in Alcester in 1992. Eric preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1995. She transferred to Morningside Manor Nursing Home in 1999.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Union County Historical Society. The couple took several bus trips around the United States and also visited Sweden several times. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles, play games and spend time with family, friends and her roommate Lucille.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Eric, she was preceded in death by her parents.
