Tim Nilles, 51, of Knoxville, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics surrounded by family and friends after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Tim was born May 9, 1957 in Le Mars,the son of Walter and Vera Mae (Schilmoeller) Nilles. He was married to Theresa Marie Wiederholt June 25, 1976 in Oyens. He was raised in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic school.
Tim was a manufacturing engineer at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella where he'd worked for 15 years. He started as a welder in Plant 2 and worked his way though various positions until he was promoted to engineer.
An avid Hawkeye fan, Tim rarely missed a game. He was usually wearing Hawkeye attire and was willing to debate the pros and cons of his favorite team versus other rival schools.
He also had a passion for all outdoor activities, especially at his cabin. He loved to take his grandchildren for 4-wheeler rides, fishing and talking around a bonfire with family and friends.
Tim will be greatly missed by his wife, Theresa of Knoxville; daughter, Carrie Pinkerton and her husband, Steve of Des Moines; son, Chad Nilles and his significant other, Amanda Toopes of Pleasantville; son, Travis Delaney and his wife, Kristina, of Attica. Tim's grandchildren are Coultan and Blayton Nilles and Jazmine Delaney. Tim is also survived by his mother, Vera Mae Nilles of Remsen, his brothers and sisters: Linda and Duane Sudtelgte of Ackley, Larry and Donna Nilles of Sutherland, LeRoy and Vickie Nilles of Rapid City S.D., Marge and Tom Montgomery of Redman, Ore., Mary and Don McClaren of Evansdale, Malia and Kevin Mouser of Remsen, Ken and Barb Nilles of Sanborn, and Jane and Jeff Peck of Cedar Falls, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Other special people who will miss Tim include his mother-in-law, Rita Wiederholt; goddaughter, Jessica Steffans; godsons, John Stamer and Chris Nilles; brother-in-law, Mark Wiederholt and his friend, Chrystal Whittman; sister-in-law, Mary Cabeen; and many friends and adopted family members.
Preceding him in death are his father, Walter Nilles and niece, Melissa Mouser.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. with vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville with visitation prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, rural Marion County. Luncheon will follow service in the Fellowship Hall at St. Anthony's.
