Mary P. Trometer, 85, of Farmington, Ill., and formerly of rural Merrill, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at her home in Farmington.

Mary P. Trometer was born Oct. 15, 1923, at rural Hinton, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Larson) Vehe. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School. She married Glen V. Trometer on Oct. 11, 1941, in Blair, Neb.

During her lifetime her early married years were spent on a farm west of Merrill and then a move to Ellendale to operate Glen's Service Station with her husband. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ed's Trucking, Merrill, a sales person and clothing and fur alteration specialist for Williges in Sioux City, and a caregiver for her husband for many years. She worked was a manager for Ben's Dairy Queen in Le Mars, and worked for Bogenreif Stained Glass of Merrill.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at rural Merrill, and the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. In her free time, she loved to travel.

Survivors include four daughters, Deanna (Del) Snyder of Farmington, Ill., Carol (Alex) Wilson of Monterey, Calif., Joyce Semlow of Shelby, Mich., and Ruth Trometer (Steve Nichols) of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Tiffany Tinti, Jennifer Fehr, Beau Semlow and Erin Ruckman and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Ervin Vehe and two sisters Alta De Rocher and Dorothy Cote.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Merrill, with the Rev. Peter Boe officiating Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux city. Visitation was Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
