Manuel S. Mount, 87, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Mount was cremated, there will be visitation.
Mr. Mount was born in 1915, in Westfield, Iowa, the son of Allie and Bertha (Lovell) Mount. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion and was involved with the invasion of Normandy on D-Day.
He married Dorothy Amundson on Oct. 24, 1942, in Dakota City. She passed away Nov. 17, 2001, in Sioux City. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 27 years, retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, wood working and yard work.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Timothy and Rose Mount of Round Rock, Texas; a daughter, Dianne Mount of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Susan Mount of Manteca, Calif.; a brother, John Mount of Chokio, Minn.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Ralph Mesick of San Francisco, Calif.; four granddaughters, Tammy, Lori and Christine Mount and Sara Worden; a grandson, Jeremy Mount; and a great-grandson, Cody.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; a son, Gary Mount; two brothers, Pete and James; two sisters, Clemantine Hummel and Blanche Kowalski; and a sister-in-law, Louella Mount.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Mount, Timothy Mount, Mike Mount, Jeremy Mount, John Amundson and Glenn Ashcraft.
