AKRON, Iowa -- Alfred Nason, 89, of Akron died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. Steven Jewett of Westfield Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Alfred Nason was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Elk Point, S.D., the son of Joseph and Elvina (Rosenbaum) Nason. He served in the U.S. Army from July 9, 1942 to Nov. 19, 1945, as a tractor operator.
He married Ruth M. Behnens on Oct. 26, 1946, in Sioux City. He farmed around the Westfield, Iowa and Akron area until retiring in 1978 and moved into Akron. His wife died April 24, 1999.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Thomas and Julie of Akron; two granddaughters, Tricia Tarrell and Jeanne Moore; a grandson, Joel Nason; two great-grandsons, Brenden Moore and Alexander Tarrell; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Smith; three sisters, Elsie Gardener of Sioux City, Ruby Morgan of Blair, Neb., and Alice Bradshaw of North Sioux City; and a brother, Lawrence Nason of Sioux City.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Lee; a great-granddaughter; four sisters; and four brothers.
Pallbearers will be Joel Nason, Kurt Moore, Michael Tarrell, Mike Morgan, Ed Morgan and Brad Banks.
