DENVER, Colo. -- Hilma M. Metz, 96, of Denver, formerly of Akron, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in Denver.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church in Denver, with the Very Rev. James Marino, J.C.D., officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Olinger Mortuary in Wheatridge, Colo.

Hilma Marie Metz was born in Akron, the daughter of John W. and Mary A. (Mullen) Anderson. She married Royal Metz on July 30, 1934. Royal died July 6, 1963.

She had lived in Denver for a number of years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters since March 8, 1926, and received an award for 75 years in the organization, which was founded 80 years ago. She enjoyed quilting and handiwork, loved to travel and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Survivors include two nieces, Rose Durig of South Sioux City, and Lorraine Wilson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two nephews, Ray Bliss and his wife, Wanda, of Sarasota, Fla., and Bob Bliss of Downey, Calif.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Frank; a sister Lillian Bliss; four nephews and a niece.
