Elmer J. Meske, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating and the Rev. Jerry Crow assisting. Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Brunsville, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Meske was born July 20, 1922, in Akron, Iowa, the son of August C. and Mary (Lubben) Meske. He was raised in Akron and attended schools in Plymouth County, Iowa.
He married DeLoris Mae Crow on March 9, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He farmed in the Akron area until 1956, when the family moved to Brookings, S.D. They lived in Brookings, where he was employed as a truck driver and later with a lumber yard. In 1969 they moved to Sioux City, where he was employed with a couple of lumber yards and later at Security National Bank in the maintenance department.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, camping and making crafts.
He is survived by his wife, DeLoris Mae Meske of Sioux City; three sons, Arlan Meske and his wife, Janet of Farragut, Iowa, Ky Meske and his wife, Pam of Boise, Idaho, and Kim Meske of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Mildred Meske of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
Pallbearers will be Greg Crow, Mike Crow, Dan Marsh, Chad Stolpe, Brandon Swenson and Damon Swenson.
