Clarence J. Miller, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Broderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Clarence J. Miller was born Jan. 25, 1924, on his family's farm in rural Merrill, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Nora (Bauerly) Miller. He attended Liberty Township School in rural Plymouth County, Iowa. He graduated in 1941.

He married Donna Kovarna on Aug. 28, 1943, in Rolla, Mo. In 1943 he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After the service, he worked as an appliance repairman at T.S. Martin, now known as Younkers. He retired in 1986. Following his retirement, he enjoyed making woodcrafts as a hobby.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. He was an avid bowler and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Sioux City; two sons, James Miller and his wife, Cinda of Sioux City, and Ronald Miller and his special friend, Belinda Jones of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter, Barbara McKenney and her husband, David of Hinton, Iowa; a brother, Bernard Miller and his wife, Pat of Sioux City; a sister, Marion Ahrensen and her husband, Mel of Le Mars, Iowa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two half brothers, Arthur Newman and his wife, Margerite, and Roy Newman; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Miller.

Pallbearers will be Scott Hindman, Doug Kovarna, David Miller, Greg Ahrensen, Barry Kounkel and Kevin Miller.
