LE MARS, Iowa -- Florence Madsen, 66, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars following a several-month illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m., a rosary at 7 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
The former Florence Virginia Ruden was born March 10, 1937, at Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Goetzinger) Ruden. Florence graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1955.
She married Bernard Madsen on Nov. 13, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. He passed away Sept. 6, 1990. The couple traveled and lived in many states in their early marriage, then in Le Mars the rest of her life. Florence had worked for many years as an office manager for JCPenney.
Florence was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she had been active as a greeter and was also a member of the Altar Society. She was a special lady who enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved walking, bowling and watching the Game Show Network and the Food Channel.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Randy and Deb Madsen of Le Mars, and their children, Le Ann and Steve Hazen of Ames, Iowa, and Matt and Lisa of Le Mars; a son, Rick Madsen of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Deb and Dan Ritz and their children, Danielle, Jared and Michael, all of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Ted and Paula Madsen and their children, Ted Jr. and Courtney, all of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Jim and Jenni Madsen and their children, Nathan, Nicolas, Emmaily and Ellianna, all of Le Mars; four brothers and their wives, Ray and Lorraine Ruden, Joe and Bonnie Ruden, Eldon and Mildred Ruden, all of Le Mars, and Tom and Marva Ruden of East Alton, Ill.; four sisters, Mary Ann Mousel-VonArb of Alton, Ill., Erma Bush and her husband, Lee of Cleghorn, Iowa, Cy Ahlers and her husband, Robert, and Jeanne Woll and her husband, Larry, all of Le Mars; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Joyce Madsen of South Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Shirley Peterson of Le Mars.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Russell on July 24, 1963; and three brothers, Wally, Sylvius and Harold Ruden.
Pallbearers will be four grandsons, Matt Madsen, Jared Ritz, Michael Ritz and Ted Madsen Jr., and two nephews, Tom Woll and Charlie Woll.
