LE MARS, Iowa -- Herman D. Kruse, 96, of rural Brunsville, Iowa, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There also will be one hour of visitation prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Kruse was born May 1, 1905, one mile west of Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Harm and Anna (Nannen) Kruse. He was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Theodore Meyer of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Preston Township) Akron, Iowa. He attended country school and assisted his family with farming.

He married Minnie Trientje Siebens on Feb. 10, 1935, on her parents' farm by the Rev. Franz Otto Bunge. The couple met at a Luther League meeting. They made their home on a farm near Brunsville for three years before moving to their current farm in Grant Township. They lived on their farm until moving to Pleasant Acres in Hull, Iowa.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars, and had served on its council as a trustee.

Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Mildred Schulz of Le Mars, and Edna Schubbee of Peotone, Ill.; a nephew very special to him, Dale Hennings and his daughter, Anna Minnie Rose Hennings of Le Mars; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, John, Louis, George, Elmer and William.
