IRETON, Iowa -- Jolene B. Kruse, 62, of Ireton died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.
Jolene Beth Herwynen was born April 14, 1939, in Le Mars, to Richard and Mildred (Black) Herwynen. She was baptized at First United Methodist Church in Ireton. Jolene was raised in Ireton and graduated from Ireton High School in 1957. She was always proud that she had earned a varsity letter in girls basketball in high school. Following high school, she went to work for her parents in the family grocery store in Ireton.
Jolene was united in marriage to Wendell "Tiny" Kruse on May 6, 1959, at United Methodist Church in Preston Township, where she and "Tiny" have been active members for years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Siouxland Propane for 26 and a half years, retiring in 1995.
Jolene and "Tiny" enjoyed fishing. She also enjoyed collecting "Precious Moments" and "Snow Villages." A special joy to Jolene was her love of children, especially her nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served as church treasurer for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Wendell "Tiny" Kruse of Ireton; a brother and his wife, David and Sarah Herwynen of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Virginia and Thomas Eilers of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers-in-law and their wives, the Rev. Alfred and Jane Kruse of Readlyn, Iowa, Ralph and Charlene Kruse of Le Mars; a sister-in-law and her husband, Elaine and Jerry McFarland of Santa Rosa, Calif.; an aunt, Pearl Venard of Hawarden, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Duane Korleski, Scott and Greg Vereeman, Ron Popken, Jay Eilers, Mike Brown and Mike Jacobsen.
