REMSEN, Iowa -- Martha Kriege, 98, of Remsen died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a St. Mary's Guild rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Martha was born Feb. 18, 1907, in rural Granville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Plathe) Konz. She was raised in the Granville area and received her education in both the rural school system and St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville. She then helped on the farm and did domestic work in the Granville and Alton, Iowa area.
On Jan. 24, 1938, she married Lloyd Kriege in Granville. They made their home near Remsen, where they were engaged in farming. They moved into Remsen in 1962. Lloyd died May 5, 1965.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed her flower gardens, crocheting, quilting and baking.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Keith McClain of Luther, Mont., Charleene and Stan Stigge of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Doris and Jim Krogman of Remsen; five sons and wives, Richard and Sherron, Robert and Jo Ann, all of Skiatook, Okla., Louis and Karen of Iowa City, Iowa, Charles of Remsen and James and Carol of Longmont, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; a great-great-stepgrandson; a brother and his wife, Robert and Dorothy Konz of Le Mars, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Konz of Salix, Iowa, and Mrs. George (Mary) Konz of Sleepy eye, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Stigge; three sisters and their husbands, Anna and Cornelius Wolf, Rose and Joe Holton and Liz and Pat Their; and six brothers, Pete and his wife, Callista Konz, Bernard, George and Sylvester Konz, Albert Konz as a child and Raymond and his wife, Monica Konz.
Pallbearers will be Mark, Mike and Rick Kriege, John Krogman, Monte McClain and Raymond Stigge. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert and Tony Kriege, Max Krogman, Andrew, Craig and Stuart McClain.
