Martin P. Krier, 87, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 28, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carol James officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Krier was born April 18, 1916, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of Peter and Pauline (Lucksan) Krier. He attended school in Hendricks, Minn.
He married Cecile Conley on July 19, 1938, in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple just celebrated their 65th anniversary.
He operated Krier Trucking in Washta, Iowa from 1939 to 1957, when they moved to California to work for General Motors. In 1960, he moved to Sioux City and worked for All-American Transportation, retiring in 1978. Recently, he drove a limousine for Dr. Jones Eye Clinic.
He was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Cecile Krier of Sioux City; a daughter, Gloria Johnson and her fiance, Roger Faltys, of Sioux City; four sons and their wives, Denny and Mary Krier of Sioux City, Ken and Marge Krier of Sikeston, Mo., Randy and Nancy Krier of Lubbock, Texas, and Rick and Judy Krier of Pierson, Iowa; Mark Johnson of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Chris, Brandon, Alex and David Krier and Chad and Marty Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Julie Reeder and Jackie Pollow.
