LONA ALICE COLLINS
LE MARS, Iowa—Lona Alice Collins, 66, of LeMars died Sunday, Oct. 8, 1989, in Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. in Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars.
Mrs. Collins, the former Lona Berger, was born Sept. 16, 1923, at Weiner, Ark., the daughter of Samuel W. and Lona (Leech) Berger. She graduated from Weiner High School and Droghons Business College in Memphis, Tenn. She worked as a secretary in Memphis until her marriage to Robert A. Collins Aug. 29, 1947, at Weiner. She was a substitute assistant office clerk in the LeMars Community School System and a part-time clerk at the Westmar College Book Store for several years.
Mrs. Collins was vice president of Gus Pech Manufacturing Co., Inc. until 1986. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving on organ committees, and as church treasurer and circle leader.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; three sons, Dr. Stephen Collins and his wife, Barbara (Wernli) of Lexington, Mass., Gregg Collins of LeMars, and Cris Collins and his wife, Christy (Penning) Collins of LeMars; two grandchildren, Ryan Collins of Lexington, Mass., and Nicole Collins of LeMars; four sisters, Dorothy Lowrey of Heber Springs, Ark., Katherine Gibson of Jonesboro, Ark., and Helen Barr and Ruth Linn, both of Weiner, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Winfred Berger.
