REMSEN, Iowa -- Charlotte M. Koch, 89, of Remsen died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be at Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at the church, with the a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Charlotte Koch was born June 4, 1915, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Klaschen) Koch. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education in both the rural school system and Remsen Public Schools, from which she graduated in 1933. She attended Western Union College in Le Mars, Iowa, for one year.

She served several years in the Women's Army Corps, then returned to Remsen where she cared for her grandparents. She did domestic work in Sioux City for many years. In the early 1970s, she moved back to Remsen where she cared for her parents in their later years. She had been a resident of Happy Siesta since April 4, 2005.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was baptized. She was later confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen due to the absence of a pastor at St. Paul Church. She was very active in the Martha Circle at St. Paul and enjoyed quilting for the Circle and attending to the altar linens. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and handiwork. She will be remembered for her large Christmas family dinners held at her home for several decades. Charlotte was always attentive to current news and kept close contact with her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a sister, Minnie Schmitt of Remsen; a brother, Melvin Koch and his wife, Jeanette, of Remsen; four nephews, Randy Schmitt and his wife, Marilyn, of Fonda, Iowa, Eugene Koch and his wife, Diane, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, David Koch of Omaha, Neb., and James Koch and his wife, Stephanie, of Wichita, Kan.; three nieces and their husbands, Paula and Marvin Roder and Joanne and David John, all of Sioux City and Mary and Tom Klein of Waukee, Iowa; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Alfred A. Schmitt.

Casket bearers will be Randy Schmitt, Dave, Gene and Jim Koch, Marvin Roder and Tom Klein.
