Russell B. Kaufmann, 81, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at his residence.
The body was cremated. There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Kaufmann was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Dora (Roeser) Kaufmann. He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars High School. He attended Westmar College, Texas A&M and the University of Iowa, where he received his master of arts degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in France and received the Purple Heart Medal.
He married Helen Thomashumas in 1942 in Sioux City. After the war, he worked for Merrill Lynch, Burroughs and Fenner & Bean in Minneapolis. He came to Sioux City in 1961. He was the assistant controller of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in the 1970s.
He was a member of the Alumni Association at the University of Iowa, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed sports, dog racing and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Sioux City; a brother, Donald Kaufmann of Sioux City; three nieces, Doretta Bockholt, Bernie Tymcowicz and Patty Johnson; and a nephew, Jim Tymcowicz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
