MARCUS, Iowa -- Loren W. Kauffman, 73, of Marcus died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Marcus, with the Rev. Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Loren was born May 26, 1929, in rural Marcus, the son of Ernest and Alvina (Wienk) Kauffman. He was baptized on June 30, 1929, and confirmed April 18, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended rural country schools in the Marcus area.

He married Joan Bleasdell of Moville, Iowa, on Sept. 10, 1950. He started farming with his father, Ernest, and his brother, Leo, and continued farming for 40 years until his retirement. After retiring he opened a repair and welding shop, where he worked until a fire caused health problems and he closed the shop.

He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member the Farm Bureau and Cherokee County Pork Producers. He was a snowmobile instructor and a member of the Woodbury Camping Club. He liked to camp, fish and hunt. He also enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters and their husbands, Teresa Kay and Tim Lockhart of Long Beach, Wash., and Nancy Ann and Puna Ah Chong of North Salt Lake, Utah; two sons, Randall Wayne Kauffman and his wife, Teresa of Marcus, and John Ernest Kauffman of Watertown, S.D.; two grandchildren, Jamie Kauffman of Marcus, and Faleata Ah Chong of North Salt Lake; and a brother and his wife, Leo and Lois Kauffman of Le Mars, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alvina Kauffman.
