YANKTON, S.D. -- Francis "Sam" Johnson, 60, of Yankton, formerly of Madison, Neb., died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa, with the Rev. Steve Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Francis "Sam" Carl Johnson was born July 21, 1942, in Alma, Neb., the son of Peter Carl and Anna Mae (Renner) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson married Jerrine Brown on Jan. 22, 1966, in Westfield, Iowa. He managed a grocery store in Ida Grove, Iowa. He helped run the family business, the Alpine Restaurant and Lounge. He owned Sam's Place in Madison, Neb., and was currently the owner/operator of S & J Windshield Repair.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Neb. In his free time, he loved to fish, loved playing and doing photo work with the computer and always loved to joke around and have a good time.

Survivors include his wife, Jerrine of Yankton; a son, Rick Johnson and his wife, Tricia of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Jamie Norseen of Hastings, Neb.; a sister, Verlene Nappe of Carroll, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Bill Brown and his wife, Sue, and Wayne Brown and his wife, Jean, all of Akron; two sisters-in-law, Pat Benton and her husband, Randy of Akron, and Wanda Kayl of Grand Island, Neb.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Willie Nappe.

Pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Wayne Brown, Randy Benton, Doug Schaffer, Chuck Bish and Brian Nappe.
