LE MARS, Iowa -- Helen A. Johnson, 80, formerly of Le Mars, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, S.D.
Services will be 2 p.m Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Helen Agnes Johnson was born Feb. 22, 1922, on a farm near Merrill, Iowa, to John and Katherine (Borchers) Ohlrichs. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Johnson Township, rural Merrill. She attended country school and later graduated from Le Mars High School in 1939. Prior to the marriage, she worked at Koehler Abstract Company in Le Mars.
She and Walter John Johnson were united in marriage on Dec. 11, 1941, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Struble, Iowa, prior to moving to the Johnson homestead in Preston Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. They farmed there for several years. Walter passed away march 15, 1975. She remained on the farm for two years before moving into Le Mars. She was then employed with Athens Real Estate. She suffered a stroke in the fall of 1985. She moved to Morningside Care Center in Alcester on Jan. 24, 1986, where she resided since.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she held various positions throughout the years. She enjoyed flower gardening and yard work. She also belonged to card groups and enjoyed visiting with others.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Glen Klemme of Akron, Iowa; a granddaughter, Jodi Klemme of Vermillion, S.D.; a grandson and his wife, Deacon and Kendra Klemme of St. Paul, Minn.; a granddaughter and her husband, Kendal and Matt Zoeller of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a great-granddaughter, Mya Zoeller of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Dorothy Dirks of Hawarden, Iowa, and Bernice and her husband, Robert Less of Le Mars; and a brother and his wife, Donald and Ruth Ohlrichs of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Donna Klemme, on Jan. 20, 2002.
