CRYSTAL YOERGER

MERRILL, Iowa—Crystal V. Yoerger, 95, or rural Merrill died Thursday, March 21, 1996, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Ellendale), rural Merrill, with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church, with a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service. The Feuerstein Funeral Home of LeMars is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Yoerger, the former Crystal Ward, was born Feb. 12, 1901, in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Nellie (Collins) Ward. She grew up in Clayton County and graduated from Guttenberg High School. She then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After receiving her degree in education, she taught school for many years at Liberty Consolidated School in Liberty Township, Plymouth County, Iowa.

She married Raymond Yoerger on Aug. 16, 1923, in Perry, Mo. The couple farmed their entire lives. Following her husband’s death on Jan. 1, 1980, Mrs. Yoerger continued to live on and manage the farm until her death.

Mrs. Yoerger was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Ellendale), the Altar Society, the Independent Order of Foresters, and the Iowa Farm Bureau.

Survivors include a son, Roger of Urbana, Ill.; two daughters, Janice and her husband John Ahern of Kenosha, Wis., and Geraldine Baldwin of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Stanford Ward; and a sister, Mrs. Averyl Bishop.
