Funeral services for Ruth Mary Rogness, 89, of Westminster, Md., and formerly of Royal, will be held today, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. The Rev. Deb Mechler will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Ms. Rogness passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Carroll Hospice in Westminster, Md.

Ruth Mary Letsche was born Aug. 26, 1918 in Remsen to Martin and Frieda (Schmidt) Letsche. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus. Ruth later graduated from Remsen High School and attended Westmar College in LeMars.

Ruth was married to Ruben Rogness of Ossian, on Aug. 10, 1940 in Marcus. Ruth taught in the Iowa school system for 29 years in Royal. She was nominated for teacher of the year. Following her retirement in 1979, Ruth spent her time in various volunteer pursuits. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben; her parents; two sisters: Emma and Faye; and four brothers: Roland, Paul, Roy and Harold.

Ruth is survived by one son, Daniel Rogness and his wife, Kati of Anchorage, Ark.; her two daughters: Joan Graen and her husband, Noel of Finksburg, Md., and Joyce Brawner and her husband, Harold of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
