LE MARS, Iowa -- Kenneth W. Utesch, 79, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Kenneth W. Utesch was born Sept. 15, 1923, near Akron, Iowa, to Frank and Ellas (Wetrosky) Utesch. He attended Merrill (Iowa) High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Aug. 25, 1944 and served until July 11, 1946.

He was united in marriage to Esther Feller on Dec. 27, 1944. He owned and operated Modern Plumbing and Heating in Le Mars for several years. He later worked as a custodian for St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars for 14 years, retiring in 1988. Esther passed away April 17, 1997.

He later married Madeline Bunkers on Jan. 15, 2000. Madeline passed away Aug. 25, 2000.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed Bible study groups and helping wherever needed. The church was a very important part of his life. He also enjoyed playing cards and having daily coffee with his friends and was a member of American Legion Wasmer Post 241.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Greg Myhr of Maple Grove, Minn.; a stepgranddaughter, Jessica Myhr of New York; a brother and his wife, Norman and Ellen Utesch of Le Mars; three stepchildren and their spouses, Mary Ann and Gerald Goebel of Granville, Iowa, Bob and Marcy Bunkers of Sioux City and Jan and Ron Ernst of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Keith Orban, Eugene Orban, Tim Rasmussen, Randy Utesch, Ron Ernst and Dennis Schmidt.
