BRUNSVILLE, Iowa -- Max G. Utesch, 92, of Brunsville died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, with the Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Max George Utesch was born July 11, 1909, on the family farm in Washington Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Max and Mathilda "Tillie" (Null) Utesch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township, rural Merrill, Iowa. He attended country school in Plymouth County. As a young man, he moved to California and worked in a hospital as an orderly and later as a steel worker.

While living in California, Max was united in marriage to Hannah Fisher on Oct. 9, 1940, in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple returned to Brunsville and farmed in Washington Township. He continued to be active on the farm until he entered Plymouth Manor in September 1996.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served on the church council and the building committee for the construction of the present church. He also served on the Brunsville school board, Brunsville city council and on the committee to organize the 50th anniversary of Brunsville. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and being a grandfather to his four grandchildren. Through his life, Max had always had a passion for farming and raising cattle and hogs.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Max "Bud" and Linda Utesch of Le Mars and Sandra and Bob Sievers of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Max Utesch IV, Rob Sievers Jr., Brett Utesch and Brook Utesch; a great-granddaughter, Rowan Sievers; and a brother-in-law, Herb Raby of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah, in 1996; two brothers, August and Harry Utesch; five sisters, Viola Utesch, Hannah Peters, Tillie Raby, Lillian Taylor and Minnie Pendleton; and a grandson, Troy Utesch.

Pallbearers will be Max "Bud" Utesch, Bob Sievers, Max Utesch IV, Rob Sievers Jr., Brett Utesch and Brook Utesch.
