Mildred A. "Millie" Sitzmann, 85, of Sioux City passed away peacefully with family members present on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.

Services will be 10 a.m Monday at The Cathedral of the Epiphany, with the Very Rev. Paul-Louis Arts and the Rev. Richard Sitzmann, her nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m, the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Sitzmann was born May 18, 1917, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel J. and Clara M. (Frerichs) Cronin. She was raised on a farm near Oyens, Iowa.

She married Victor V. Sitzmann on Nov. 24, 1937, in Oyens. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa. They moved to Sioux City in 1950. Mr. Sitzmann passed away Aug. 31, 1986, in Elk Point, S.D.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Epiphany, where she attended daily Mass. She also was a member of the Ladies Confraternity of the church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed being around her family and baking, with pies being her specialty.

Survivors include her 12 children, Barbara Fulkerson of Denver, Colo., Daniel Sitzmann and his wife, Carolyn, of Sioux City, Thomas Sitzmann and his wife, Rene, of Pueblo, Colo., Robert and Joseph Sitzmann, both of San Francisco, Calif., Victor Sitzmann of Clear Lake, Iowa, Anne and her husband, Ron Ewing, of Tucson, Ariz., Dean Sitzmann and his wife, Susan, of Lincoln, Neb., Maureen Sitzmann of Le Mars, Mary and her husband, Kenny Cakebread, of Sergeant Bluff, Jayne James of Des Moines, and Jon Sitzmann and his wife, Debra S., of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Paula Cronin of Oyens and Kenneth and Kathleen Cronin of Le Mars; two sisters, Claris and her husband, Fred Hoefling, and Marian Walsh, all of Sioux City; 30 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Ellen White; her parents; three sisters; and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Dan, Tom, Joe, Bob, Dean and Shaun Sitzmann.
