OYENS, Iowa -- Karen M. Schnepf, 55, of Ralston, Neb., formerly of Oyens, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at her sister's home in Lincoln, Neb.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, with the Rev. Timothy Hogan officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Karen was born Jan. 8, 1948, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Marie (Langenhorst) Schnepf. She was raised in the Remsen and Oyens area and received her first five years of education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. Grades six through eight she attended at St. Catherine's Catholic School in Oyens and her high school education was received at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, from which she graduated valedictorian of her class in 1966. She attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, from which she graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in science, majoring in mathematics in 1969.

She was then employed as a computer programmer at Douglas County Data Processing in Omaha, Neb., until 1979. She then entered Creighton University Law School in Omaha, graduating with a doctor of law degree in 1982. She then began her 20-year employment at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, where she received the distinguished faculty award in 1986, teaching computer science until her death.

Karen was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha and the Catholic Order of Foresters of Remsen. She was an avid tennis player, winning numerous trophies in various leagues. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, wood crafts and needlework.

Survivors include her mother, Marie of Oyens; a brother, Wayne of Oyens; three sisters, Rosanne and her husband, Donald Schwery of Panama, Iowa, Dr. Marilynn Schnepf of Lincoln, Neb., and Joyce and her husband, James Visor of Racine, Wis.; and four nieces, Beth Schwery of Kansas City, Mo., Jill Schwery of Des Moines, and Katie and Annie Visor, both of Racine, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; and a brother, Robert.

Pallbearers will be Jerry and Louis Arens, Dan and Wayne Pick and Loren and Mike Schnepf.

Catholic Order of Forester honorary pallbearers will be Larry and Ann Galles, Donald and Gin Konz and Wayne and Maureen Pottebaum.
