KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Ivy L. Swanberg, 99, of Kingsley died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley, with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Ivy was born May 30, 1903, in rural Kingsley, the daughter of Robert and Reike Atkinson. She was the youngest of Robert and Reike's five children. Her father, Robert Atkinson, died when Ivy was 3 years old. Later, her mother, Reike, married Edwin Page and they made their home in Kingsley. Ivy graduated from Kingsley High School.

On May 10, 1920, Ivy married Oscar Swanberg. They were married 64 years until Oscar's death on Dec. 2, 1984. After their marriage, they lived in rural Kingsley, Wagner, S.D., and Merrill, Iowa, before buying a farm and moving back to Kingsley. Ivy and Oscar were the parents of four children.

Ivy was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ and Elkhorn Farm Women's Club. She loved the outdoors and working with her flowers and gardening. She and Oscar loved dancing, reading and they spent 17 winters in Texas. She was truly loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include two sons, Max Swanberg and his wife, Betty of Crooked River Ranch, Ore., and Bob Swanberg and his wife, Jerri of Prole, Iowa; two daughters, Shirley Jensen and her husband, Lauris of Kingsley, and Phyllis Bruning and her husband, Darrell of Lawton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather; a brother, Keith; three sisters, Myrtle, Flossie and Ruth; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.
