SHELDON, Iowa -- Vincent M. Streff, 87, of Sheldon died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Robert Schimmer officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 7:30 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.
Mr. Streff was born June 23, 1915, in rural Alton, Iowa, the son of Felix and Ann (Pottebaum) Streff. He was raised and educated in the Alton area. He then worked as a farm laborer in the Alton area for his uncle, Martin Streff.
On Nov. 16, 1938, he married Hildegarde "Sis" Fiedler in Oyens, Iowa. They made their home near Oyens, where they were engaged in farming until 1950, when they moved to a farm near Remsen, Iowa. They retired and moved into Remsen in 1969, and in 1974, they moved to Le Mars, Iowa. In 1988, they moved to Sheldon. Sis died Oct. 20, 1998.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Arlene and Terry Budden of Sheldon; two grandsons and their wives, Troy and Linda and their children, Riley, Zachary and Emma, all of Pipestone, Minn., and Chad and Jackie and their son, Grant, all of Newton, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Stella) Frederes of Le Mars, Iowa, Mrs. George (Callista) Frederes of Remsen, Iowa, and Mrs. Ray (Charlene) Scheitler of Le Mars; a brother, Ray of Slayton, Minn.; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Irvin (Marie) Streff of Orange City, Iowa, Mrs. Clarence (Phyllis) Streff of Alton, Iowa, and Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Streff of Sauk Center, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Clarence, Robert, Clifford, Irvin, Francis and Charles in infancy; a sister, Esther in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Troy and Chad Budden, Floyd, Gary, Robert and Ronald Fiedler.
