MERRILL, Iowa -- Marjorie Ann Simonsen, 69, of Medford, Ore., formerly of Merrill, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 16, at Medford Southwest Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements were under the direction of Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory in Medford.

Miss Simonsen was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Merrill, the daughter of Hans and Gretchen (Carstensen) Simonsen. She had been a resident of Medford since 1957. She had been a teacher and taught at Medford Middle School and South Medford High School. She had been a health and physical education teacher and coached swimming. She retired in the early 1990s.

She was a founding member of the Ashland Ski Patrol and a lifetime member. She had volunteered with the J.C. Sheriffs office handicapped parking patrol for many years.

Survivors include a brother, Russ Simonsen of Rock Valley, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Sallee; and a brother, Eldon Simonsen.

Memorials may be directed to Mercy Flights, 3650 Biddle Rd., Medford, OR., or the donor's charity of choice.
