REMSEN, Iowa -- Doris Sanow, 85, of Remsen died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William Kallestad of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township, rural Akron, officiating. Burial will be in Remsen Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and after 6:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Doris Sanow was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Brandt, S.D., the daughter of Herman and Ella (Lage) Schut. She was raised and educated in the Brandt area. She moved with her family to the Remsen area where they farmed.
On July 3, 1946, she married Harlan Sanow at Remsen, where they made their home. Harlan died June 25, 1989. She had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since March 29, 2000.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She helped with meals at Senior Citizens and with bingo at Happy Siesta Health Care Center.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Mary and Larry Nafziger of Euless, Texas; a son and his wife, David and Sherry of Remsen; five grandchildren, Mike Nafziger and his wife, Charlotte of Euless, Heather Nafziger of Des Moines, Nathan Sanow and his wife, Missy of Ames, Iowa, Justin Sanow of Remsen, and Brad Sanow of Remsen, and his fiancee, Andrea Brown of Forth Worth, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Ian and Tristan Nafziger of Euless, and Katie Jo Sanow of Ames; a sister-in-law, Esther Schut of Flandreau, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ray Schut.
Pallbearers will be Mike Nafziger, Nathan, Justin and Brad Sanow, Randy Becker, Dave Plathe and Phil Staab.
