Shirley A. Skinner, 71, of Sioux City died Friday, May 23, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a Confraternity of Christian Mothers rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Skinner was born April 15, 1932, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Edward G. and Anna B. (Mack) Meyer. The family moved to Sioux City when she was 10 years old and she had lived here since. She graduated from Central High School.
She married Robert D. Skinner on Oct. 7, 1950, in Sioux City. She had worked several years as a clerk at O.P. Skaggs and Barney-Baron Stores. She then stayed home to raise her family.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was very active with several bowling leagues, golf leagues and bridge clubs. She loved fishing and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Ray and Flo Skinner of Bronson, Iowa, and Doug and Amy Skinner of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Kevin O'Connor of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two brothers, Virgil Meyer of Sioux City, and Ronald Meyer and his wife, Violet of Salem, Ore.; and nine grandchildren, Nick, Cody, Luke, Matt, Michael, Ella, Natallie, Kristi and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Meyer; and a sister, Marian Anderson.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the Carmelite Monastery.
