SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa -- Marion Sykes, 92, of Spirit Lake died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Union Creek Cemetery, Union Creek, S.D. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

Marion Elvina Sykes, the daughter of Elmer and Adina (Ericson) Hultgren, was born in Union County, S.D., on Feb. 12, 1912. She lived her youth near Akron, Iowa, and received her education at West Union School and graduated from Akron High School.

She was united in marriage to Jay Hollis Sykes in Alcester, S.D., on Feb. 22, 1935. Following their marriage, they farmed in Union County and later moved to Spencer, Iowa. In 1946, they moved to Milford, Iowa. She spent her life as a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Milford. Her special interests included, playing bridge, reading, working and her church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judy and John Eriksson of Somonauk, Ill.; her twin sister, Marie Heeren of Akron, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth Hultgren of Madison, S.D.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Jason; and two brothers, Russell and Earl Hultgren.
