STRUBLE, Iowa -- William F. "Bill" Schlesser, 77, long-time rural Struble area farmer, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. William McCarthy presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion, Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a St. Joseph's Rosary-Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.
William Francis Schlesser was born March 14, 1927 on the family farm near Struble, Iowa, the son of Frank and Irene (Schreiner) Schlesser. He grew up in the Struble area and graduated from Alton High School. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed overseas in Germany. Upon returning home from the war, Bill returned to the Struble area and farmed in Sioux and Plymouth Counties for many years.
Bill was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble and was also a member of the American Legion, Wasmer Post 241 in Le Mars.
Survivors include a sister, Rosalee Ketcham and her husband, Denis, of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Marge Schlesser of Lawton, Iowa; a niece, Kathy (Schlesser) Davies and her husband, Mark, of Lawton; four nephews, Dr. Michael Schlesser of Dallas, Texas, Thomas Schlesser and his wife, Claire, of New York City, N.Y., Jeff Ketcham and his wife, Marsha, of Omaha and Dan Ketcham and his wife, Aimee, of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jim Schlesser.
