PIERSON, Iowa - LeRoy F. Struve, 81, of Pierson died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Bert Burwell A.I.M. officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson, with military rites conducted by American Legion of Pierson. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home, Kingsley, Iowa.
LeRoy was born Feb. 16, 1923, in rural Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Fred W. and Ruth (Wenzel) Struve. He grew up in the Quimby, Iowa area. He served in the U.S. Army from August of 1945 until January of 1947.
He married Dorothy Benson on June 20, 1954 at Salem Lutheran Church. He and Dorothy made their home in Pierson. He worked for the Town of Pierson for 22 years prior to his retirement. Previously, he was employed with Pierson Implement for seven years.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Pierson American Legion. His greatest love in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Pierson; two sons, Doyle Struve and his wife, Dawn of Pierson and Dan Struve and his wife, Deb of Moville, Iowa; a daughter, Cindy Slinger and her husband, Tom of Pierson; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Leon "Bud" Struve of Kileen, Texas; four sisters, LaVone Trusty and her husband, Paul of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Leona Jensen of Newell, Iowa, Lola Lenhardt and her husband, Cully of Aurelia, Iowa and Lorraine McCory and her husband, Ron of Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Susie Struve; and a brother-in-law, Max "Baldy" Jensen.
