LE MARS, Iowa -- Colette A. Schiefen, 89, of Le Mars passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

The former Colette Ann Nepple was born Oct. 26, 1915, on the family farm in Carroll County, Iowa, just east of Templeton. She received her education at the parochial school in Templeton. As a young woman, she moved to Merrill, Iowa, where she was the housekeeper for Monsignor Zeno Reising at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church for nine years.

On Jan. 31, 1950, she married Theodore Schiefen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. The couple made their home west of Le Mars and farmed their entire married lives. Theodore passed away Feb. 20, 1968. In 1982, she moved into Le Mars.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Society.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Maryjane and Gaylen Tapper of Akron, Iowa, Lanice and Fred Engebretson of Scarville, Iowa, Fred and Judy Schiefen of Le Mars and Grace Ann Schiefen and John Gunderson of Irene, S.D.; and 11 grandchildren, Michael and T.J. Tapper, Ann, Ryan and Chris Engebretson, Ted, Tonya, Tracy and Travis Schiefen and Andy and Nicky Gunderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore; a daughter, Theresia Oetken in 1989; five brothers, Ed, Alphonse, Lawrence, Herbert and Norbert Nepple; and two sisters in infancy, Mary and Magdela.
