APPLE VALLEY, Calif. -- LeOra C. Schmidt, 79, of Apple Valley, formerly of Remsen, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005.

Services will be noon Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hesperia, Calif. Burial will be at Bellevue Mausoleum in Ontario, Calif. A rosary service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kern Hesperia Mortuary in Hesperia.

LeOra was born in Remsen. She moved to Montclair, Calif., in 1960.

She retired from Cutter Laboratories in Covina, Calif., and resided the last 14 years in Apple Valley.

Survivors include six children, Diann Romero of Arizona, Richard Schmidt and Roger Schmidt of Mira Loma, Calif., Fred Schmidt or Murrieta, Calif., Mary Martinez of Hesperia and Theresa Schmidt of Mira Loma; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vida Mensen of Apple Valley and Lorine Rosburg of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Schmidt.

In lieu of flowers, the family is taking donations for Wayne Schmidt, LeOra's 17-year-old grandson who is in cancer treatment.
