AKRON, Iowa -- Marvin G. Siebens, 78, of rural Akron passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron, with the Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home, Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Marvin George Siebens was born Sept. 27, 1926, on the family farm in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of George and Katherine (Wilken) Siebens. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Preston Township, while helping his father on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Weidenfeller on Dec. 6, 1954, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. The couple farmed in Preston Township. He also helped his wife with the raising of their children. He also operated a repair shop, where he worked on and fixed just about anything.

He was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a former member of the choir. He enjoyed playing cards and playing "catch" with his boys. He also enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show and visiting with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Dorothy of Akron; his children and spouses, Michael and Pat Siebens of Le Mars, Iowa, Carolyn and Garry Goebel of Sioux City, Robert and Chongmi Siebens of Springfield, Va., Alan and Linda Siebens of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Beverly Siebens of Akron, Gerald and Antoinette Siebens of Safety Harbor, Fla., Sharon and Frederick Tongol of Colorado Springs, Colo., Randall and Rachael Siebens of Ames, Iowa, James Siebens of Akron, Susan and Michael McCulley of Hoskins, Neb., and Julie Siebens of Davis, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Darlene Liles.

Pallbearers will be his sons.
