STABEN, TREPTOW, BOBZIEN

Agnes W. Staben, 101, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Staben was born Nov. 30, 1899, in rural Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Bobzien) Treptow. She was raised in the Kingsley area. She attended and graduated from Pierson (Iowa) High School.

She married Reinhold "Lou" Staben on Aug. 12, 1929, in Omaha. She had been a resident of Sioux City from 1929 to 1942, then lived in Oregon from 1942 to 1946. She then returned to Sioux City. She was employed as a telephone operator in Pierson for several years, and then with the laundry department at the Lutheran/Methodist Hospital for 22 years. Her husband died May 23, 1952.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a volunteer with Lutheran Services. She enjoyed gardening, family and friends, writing letters, and keeping informed with old friends.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Karl and Ruth Staben of Sergeant Bluff; a sister, Esther Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Five grandchildren, Jeff Staben and his wife, Rebecca, of Sioux City, Cindy Hetrick and her husband, Charlie, of Broomfield, Colo., Becky Burge and her friend, Grant Yeakey, of St. Peters, Mo., Brenda Bernard and her husband, Stevan, of Naperville, Ill., and Christine Stultz and her husband, Troy, of Sergeant Bluff; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Lois Staben of Sioux City; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Chris, Herman and Paul Treptow; three sisters, Elsie Bierman, Clara Herbold and Bertha Brower; a stepson, Claude Staben; a stepdaughter, Elsie Walters; and a great-grandson, Conner Stultz.

Pallbearers will be Natasha Hoover, Tony Burge, Angela and Nathaniel Sorensen, Cassandra and Eric Staben and Marilyn and Joe Eichkolt.
