LE MARS, Iowa -- Patrick Earl Sitzmann, 23, of Le Mars died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmar Post 241. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Patrick was born May 26, 1978, in Sioux City, the son of Curt and Marlene (Sudtelgte) Sitzmann. He was a lifelong resident of Le Mars, and attended Gehlen Catholic School and Le Mars Community School. Patrick graduated from Le Mars Community with the class of 1997. He entered the U.S. Navy and served his country for two years. While in the Navy he was stationed on two aircraft carriers, the USS Independence and the USS Kitty Hawk, in the Persian Gulf. Patrick returned to Le Mars and was employed with Wells Blue Bunny.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Curt and Marlene Sitzmann of Le Mars; a sister and her husband, Carmen and Dr. Ben Mason of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Tim Sitzmann of Le Mars; paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Sitzmann of South Sioux City; maternal grandmother, Audrey Sudtelgte of Remsen, Iowa; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Jessica Dempster of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Merlin Sitzmann; maternal grandfather, Earl Sudtelgte; an uncle, Mark Wiltgen; and a cousin, Derek Earl Penning.

Pallbearers will be Justin, Joe and Ben Sitzmann, Cody Wiltgen, Adam Johnson and Kyle Sudtelgte.
