LE MARS, Iowa -- Mrs. Arnold (Olive) Sitzmann, 101, of Le Mars died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at her residence in Le Mars.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with her son, the Rev. Richard Sitzmann of Sioux City, and the Rev. Andrew Hoffman of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Neptune in Lincoln Township. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
The former Olive Mary Strub was born Jan. 17, 1900, near Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina (Beck) Strub. She lived her entire life in Plymouth County. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1918, and later taught school in rural Plymouth County.
Olive Strub married Arnold Sitzmann on June 16, 1920, in Le Mars. The couple farmed in the Neptune area until 1953, when they moved to Le Mars. Mr. Sitzmann died Feb. 22, 1988.
Olive was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the church guild and Christian Mothers Society.
Survivors include three sons, Earl Sitzmann of Le Mars, Jim Sitzmann and his wife, Joan of Le Mars, and the Rev. Richard Sitzmann of Sioux City; four daughters, Jean Sitzmann of Le Mars, Lois Hardy of Sioux City, Joyce Ryan and her husband, Leo of Jupiter, Fla., and Connie Christiansen and her husband, John of Farmers Branch, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Dolores Sitzmann of Sioux City; 28 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Carol Letellier of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Mary Pepper of Sioux City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Sitzmann; a son-in-law, Ken Hardy; two grandsons, Bradley and Donnie Sitzmann; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Erdmann; a brother, Bill Strub; and a sister, Elsie Wuerth.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorials in her name may be directed to St. Joseph's Parish Endowment Fund or Gehlen Schools Endowment Fund.
