LE MARS, Iowa -- Shirley Kluckhohn Stover, 73, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Riverside Community Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. She had been hospitalized for several days.
Private services will be held at the Stover residence, 2470 Sunset Dr., Riverside, Calif. 92406-3468.
Shirley Kluckhohn was born March 5, 1928, in Le Mars, the daughter of Harvey N. and Lucille Kluckhohn. Her father was superintendent of Le Mars Public Schools from 1928 until 1958 and upon retirement joined Westmar College faculty in Le Mars.
Shirley graduated in 1947 from Le Mars High School. She attended Westmar College one year and earned a bachelor of music education from Drake University in Des Moines. She taught vocal music in Carroll, Iowa, for two years. She moved to Riverside in 1953, where she was a junior high school music teacher and later taught all subjects as a high school substitute teacher until 2000. Her hobbies were music, camping, hiking and singing.
Her marriage to Richard Stover took place in 1954 in Riverside, where he is a professional musician and former vice president of Riverside Community College.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Brian and Robin of Riverside and Jeffrey and Cheryl of Palm Springs, Calif.; a granddaughter, Megan of Palm Springs; and a sister, Ruth Ekkles of Des Moines.
