LE MARS, Iowa -- Nell (Hughey) Smith, 94, of Palm Desert, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Palm Desert.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa, with the Rev. Al Milligan of Odebolt United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of George T. and Edna Sarah (Bliss) Hughey.

She married Howard Cloid Smith. He died Sept. 26, 1966, in Le Mars. She had been a resident of Palm Desert for more than 30 years.

She was a member and resident of Marrakesh County Club. She loved golf and was an active member of several local charities.

Survivors include two nieces, Shirley and Helen.
